There've been some big investments into robotics recently, of note SoftBank is leading a $220 million round into Agile Robots, a startup based in Munich and Beijing that says its systems will be deployed by Foxconn, the assembler of iPhones, to help build smartphones. The company will be worth about $1 billion after the fresh capital, according to a person familiar with the matter, as investors look to capitalize on China’s rising labor costs to drive more automation in manufacturing. Meanwhile the next weeks are full of interesting robotics events from the Avatar X Prize SemiFinals (Sep 13-20), the DARPA SubT Challenge Finals (Sep 21-24), WeRobot 2021 (Sep 23-25), IROS 2021 (Sep 27-Oct 1), Self Racing Cars at Thunderhill Speedway (Oct 16-17), ROS World 2021 (Oct 20-21), the Indy Autonomous Challenge (Oct 23), ... and of course the Robot Block Party coming up at Circuit Launch on Oct 23.
