In this interactive keynote, Kai-Fu Lee, the former president of Google China, CEO of Sinovation Ventures and bestselling author of AI Superpowers, will be discussing his new book AI 2041: Ten Visions for our Future and help us to imagine how our future might be shaped by AI.
There are many more exciting new jobs in robotics on SVR's Robojobs board than I can list here:
At Toyota Research Institute (TRI), we’re working to build a future where everyone has the freedom to move, engage, and explore with a focus on reducing vehicle collisions, injuries, and fatalities. Join us in our mission to improve the quality of human life through advances in artificial intelligence, automated driving, robotics, and materials science. We’re […]

As an Autonomy Perception Engineer, you’ll develop algorithms that enable autonomous systems to understand the world and navigate safely. That includes detecting, tracking, and predicting the motion of pedestrians and vehicles, as well as characterizing obstacles and terrain. We’re looking for a primarily hands-on engineer, who’s capable of taking real-world problems, turning them into well-defined […]

Since antiquity, when sea routes and land routes were perilous for people and goods, having up to date and highly accurate maps have been a requirement for safe travel. These maps were patchworks of military sketches, captain logs, and merchant updates, and over the centuries became more and more detailed. In an era of growing […]

In this role you will be responsible for ensuring that our robots are always in a safe and functioning state. Autonomy systems are complex arrangements of hardware and software, any failures can lead to damage or at minimum downtime. You will be responsible for ensuring our robots maintain a high level of quality and reliability, […]

LIVERMORE, California: Silicon Valley has a new pitch to persuade small companies to automate: rent-a-robot. Better technology and the need to pay higher wages to humans have produced a surge in sales of robots to big companies all across America. But few of these automatons are making it into smaller fact
Our founder Saul Griffith’s new book, Electrify: An Optimist’s Playbook for our Clean Energy Future (MIT Press), got a rare starred review from the often curmudgeonly Kirkus Review, which librarians, reviewers, and bookstores rely on to know what books to buy or read. “Positive news on climate change from an expert...Surprisingly optimistic, realistic, and persuasive.” You can pre-order it now (and get a signed copy!) from Kepler’s.
New advances in robotics can help push the limits of the human body to make us faster or stronger. But now researchers from the Biorobotics Laboratory at Seoul National University (SNU) have designed an exosuit that corrects body posture. Their recent paper describes the Movement Reshaping (MR) Exosuit, which, rather than augmenting any part of the human body, couples the motion of one joint to lock or unlock the motion of another joint. It works passively, without any motors or batteries.
Agility Robotics' Digit humanoid has been taking a bit of a break from work during the pandemic. Most of what we've seen from Agility and Digit over the past year and a half has been decidedly research-y. Don't get me wrong, Digit's been busy making humans look bad and not falling over when it really should have done, but remember that Agility's goal is to make Digit into a useful, practical robot. It's not a research platform—as Agility puts it, Digit is intended to "accelerate business productivity and people's pursuit of a more fulfilling life." As far as I can make out, this is a fancier way of saying that Digit should really be spending its time doing dull repetitive tasks so that humans don't have to, and in a new video posted today, the robot shows how it can help out with boring warehouse tote shuffling.
While Boston Dynamics' Atlas humanoid spends its time learning how to dance and do parkour, the company's Spot quadruped is quietly getting much better at doing useful, valuable tasks in commercial environments. Solving tasks like dynamic path planning and door manipulation in a way that's robust enough that someone can buy your robot and not regret it is, I would argue, just as difficult (if not more difficult) as getting a robot to do a backflip.
SOSV this morning announced work on a $50 million HAX facility in Newark, New Jersey focused on growing industrial, healthcare and climate startups. The five-year development plan utilizes $25 million from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. The facility is set to open in June of 2022, with an eye on early-stage U.S. companies working […]
Apart from the IEEE/RSJ IROS 2020 (International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems) original series Real Roboticist that we have been featuring in the last weeks, another series of three videos was produced together with Black in Robotics and the support of Toyota Research Institute.
