At last count, at least a dozen members of the Afghanistan Girls Robotics Team have made it to safety, including 5 accepted by Mexico, but perhaps 25 remain stuck in Afghanistan. Contrary to US media reports, their escape was not the result of US individuals intervention but the hard work of the girls themselves, their parents and their mentors at the Digital Citizen Fund which was set up by the team’s parent group and Roya Mahboob, an Afghani female computer scientist, entrepreneur and philanthropist. They are currently raising scholarship funds for the continued education of Afghani girls.
