Agility Robotics signs multi-year contract in an industry first
From pilots and promises to the first significant commercial contracts, humanoids are here!
In my last newsletter I talked about the wide range of founding teams moving into humanoid robotics, those who are very experienced in robotics, and those who are very experienced in fundraising. When what we need are robotics companies that combine the best of both worlds.
In the latest IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine, I also talked about the parallel between the roll out of AMRs circa 2015 and 2016, and the current roll out of humanoids, which is certainly enjoying both investment and media interest.
We are at peak humanoid hype, which is usually followed by deep disillusionment, because the media gets tired of pilots and promises, and the actual market traction of real commercial deployments isn’t usually visible for another year or three.
Agility Robotics is the first to sign a major paid contract (see below), and if we see a flurry of activity following this announcement, then the next major milestone for humanoid companies is going to be number of robots built and shipped.
